Another Soccer Goal Death

“A nine year old boy died November 22, 2019 at the Margaret R. Brown Elementary School in Seymour, IN from injuries he received when a metal soccer goal tipped over and struck him in the head. Witnesses reported that the boy had been hanging on the goal which was made of heavy metal tubing.

The boy was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and later airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, where he later died.

“The base of the soccer goal wasn’t very wide, so it tipped, and we were able to determine the soccer goal got him on the back of the head”, said Officer Mike Cooper. Cooper called the incident a “freak accident.” ” It is my understanding, ” Cooper said that “it was not the first time that one of those had tipped over. It is just that nobody was hurt before.” ”
